March 14, 2014 – Email: Blessing or Curse

Do you have a love/hate affair with email?  Boy I do!  One the one hand this method of communicating is fast; can be sent to many simultaneously; creates an immediate “trail” of communication for future reference; and, if managed properly can be a time-saver.

On the other hand…oh brother!  Miscommunication due to lack of “tone of voice” or “facial expressions”; improper use to deliver information that should be delivered in person; laziness of not getting out of the chair and walking 15 feet to the next office for a “real” conversation; and, the biggest bane of all…TOO MANY EMAILS!

I don’t have the answer for solving the blessing/curse paradox of electronic mail.  But, here’s a hint. Use it only when necessary.  Instead, pick up the phone or look the other person in the eye and relate face to face for Pete’s sake. (and who the heck is this Pete, anyway? I’d like to meet him!).

Well, I could say more here, but I’d rather visit with you in person.

January 1, 2014

I don’t even know where to begin.  I pursue my purpose and passion (and make my living) speaking to and coaching and facilitating groups of all kinds.  But writing???  Ugh! Stick a needle in my eye instead.

Yet people…too many people to continue to ignore (you know who you are)…have asked, encouraged, challenged, and flat out told me to write.

So, with the help of a few years of leadership experience; some ideas that have been passed on to me; wisdom from the good Lord; and…over time…YOU, I’m going to give a shot at this blog thing.

January 1…twin-tee-fore-teen.  1st day, New Year. What the heck are we going to do with it and in it and what the heck is it going to do with and to us???  None of us can answer definitely.

But, we probably ought (no…we absolutely should) pursue our “calling”.  Huh?  What calling? Who is calling?  Let’s talk about it.  See you tomorrow.  -DM
