February 7, 2014 – Saying NO – Technique #7 – And this time the answer really is…

…”NO”. Not “hell no”! Or “take this job and shove it no”!

But saying “no” in such a way that you demonstrate you sincerely want to serve the best interests of the organization and the team.  Saying “no” by giving a rational explanation of why taking on one more project would create more problems than it would solve.  Saying “no” by understanding that saying “yes” would detract from excellence rather than result in it.  Saying “no” with a grateful heart and tone of voice reflecting that you are worthy of such confidence being placed in you. Saying “no” with a sincere apology, if needed.

May I say this please?  This is not just your job.  This is not even about your career necessarily.  We are talking about your life. And my hope (dare I say prayer?) is that you will find life and live it to the fullest.

Hey Pierce…Happy #7 birthday pal!
